Meet your National S.T.A.B.L.E. Faculty

Kristine A. Karlsen, PhD, APRN
Dr. Kristine Karlsen is the National Program Director, Founder and Award-Winning Author of the internationally recognized S.T.A.B.L.E. Program. She is a neonatal nurse practitioner involved in neonatal practice, including transport, education and clinical care, for 26 years. In addition to her work with S.T.A.B.L.E., she works in the Level 3 NICUs in the Intermountain Healthcare System in Utah. Her research interests include methods to improve neonatal outcomes, the educational process, and teacher attributes. Dr. Karlsen is a skilled, entertaining, and knowledgeable lecturer, who participates frequently in conference presentations both nationally and internationally.

Howard Stein, MD
Dr. Howard Stein is a Neonatologist, Pediatric Intensivist, and Director of Neonatal Transport at Toledo Children’s Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. He also completed a Pediatric Cardiology fellowship and worked as a Pediatric Cardiologist for 8 years. Dr. Stein is one of the National reviewers of the S.T.A.B.L.E. Program Learner materials as well as the Physical Exam module and the Cardiac Module. He has extensive national conference teaching experience and is in great demand because of his wonderful, humorous teaching style and broad knowledge about neonatal and pediatric intensive care. He serves as co-chair of his local IRB and serves on the National Certification Corporation board as a consultant for the development of a neonatal and pediatric transport certification exam. Dr. Stein frequently lectures at national conferences on neonatal cardiac and medical conditions. He has taught both NRP and S.T.A.B.L.E. nationally and internationally. Email: HowardStein@BEX.NET

Patti Scott MSN, RNC, NNP
Ms. Scott has 19 years of experience in neonatal care and is a clinical preceptor and lecturer in the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) program at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in Nashville, Tennessee. She is a Regional Trainer for the Neonatal Resuscitation Program and a certified National Faculty and experienced Lead Instructor for the S.T.A.B.L.E. Program. Patti coordinates and teaches numerous other staff development and education programs on neonatal care. Currently she works as a NNP with Mid-Tennessee Neonatology Associates, providing care to infants in level I, II, and III nurseries in the Nashville area.  She is the coordinator for their NNP Group and the Neonatal Transport Coordinator at Centennial Medical Center.
