The S.T.A.B.L.E. program module selection was based on literature that
encompasses the process of pre-transport neonatal stabilization which consistently
recommended that comprehensive attention be given to the following areas
to optimally prepare an infant for transport:
1. Concepts of thermoregulation or the prevention of cold stress;
2. Maintaining a normal acid-base balance;
3. Supporting ventilation;
4. Establishing intravenous access, monitoring and normalizing the blood
sugar;
5. Supporting the blood pressure and normalizing the heart rate;
6. Performing lab investigations including a CBC hematocrit and blood
culture;
7. Obtaining and reviewing records and radiographs;
8. Educating and maintaining involvement of the family. |
