The S.T.A.B.L.E. program module selection was based on literature that encompasses the process of pre-transport neonatal stabilization which consistently recommended that comprehensive attention be given to the following areas to optimally prepare an infant for transport:

1. Concepts of thermoregulation or the prevention of cold stress;

2. Maintaining a normal acid-base balance;

3. Supporting ventilation;

4. Establishing intravenous access, monitoring and normalizing the blood sugar;

5. Supporting the blood pressure and normalizing the heart rate;

6. Performing lab investigations including a CBC hematocrit and blood culture;

7. Obtaining and reviewing records and radiographs;

8. Educating and maintaining involvement of the family.
